more of my daisy child

A few more from our Memorial Day picnic on grandma and grandpa's pond... The real challenge with the B&W conversions is creating enough contrast without losing details in her light dress. Rachel loves this sweet dress from Aunt Flip!

will & rachel

We had dinner at my parents place, which has a pond, wildflowers, and lovely gardens. I got lots of great images, and there was challenging but interesting light. There are enough fun shots to last us several days. Here's the first batch.

At last, Will got a haircut. Yes, I paid $21 to get a glimpse of those eyes.

memorial day parade

After years of trying to get a picture of Nora as the band marches by, she ended up stopping immediately in front of us today. The heat had overwhelmed a few of the kids in the band, and they needed medical attention.

I took a series on automatic, and then switched here to manual. I've really come to appreciate being in control and the better results.

vintage experiments

I've been looking over photos from the last month, and trying to see them for all their possibilities. I downloaded some free vintage actions from Alyson (thank you Alyson!!!), and tried them out on a couple of favorites, that were technical bombs, but warm my heart nonetheless.

just skipping along

I wish I could say this was perfectly planned. It's a big, wonderful mistake. And I rather like it.

color punch

More from yesterday. I love the natural high key effect from the windows. In this case, there was a window behind her covered with white sheers, and a window to her right. Tech data same as yesterday with the B&W.

playing with the light

A new chair in the window brings new light possibilities. Rachel and I played a bit this morning. In exchange for four quarters she was charming and patient through a quick shoot.

wild rose?

Last year was our first spring in this house, and there was a terribly overgrown prickly thing in the middle of the garden. I chopped it way back. It then continued to grow and grow over the summer. This spring I discovered it has the most lovely yellow flowers. Is this some sort of a wild or creeping rose? Anyone know what it is?

another fairy

I've done so many fun shoots over the last few weeks, and haven't had enough time to process everything or order anything. Here's a rather fun one. Looking now at my settings, I'm kicking myself, but it's a rather fun shot, out of my normal comfort zone.

Fun one for canvas?

sweet sixteen

Nora celebrated her 16th Biirthday on Friday. Happy Birthday Nora!!!

Here's a shot I took at at Sonnenberg Gardens last Sunday. She was hamming it up to mock me and my camera, but I rather like it anyway.

poetry slam

I'm not keeping up with things here. I've been shooting like crazy and getting some great results. Here are a few fun ones from a work shoot at a local school of the arts.

fairy in the woods

We continued our mother's day tradition of going to Sonnenberg Gardens for a walk and photos. My favorite spot remains the rock garden.

let's play ball...

These kids have so much fun playing ball. It was my first game shooting manual, and I was very please with the results. I also recently found Johnny's actions and I used the tine_tones ones here to add some warmth. Love Johnny's actions!!!

NOTE: These photos are rich and vibrant on my screen and when I upload elsewhere. Can anyone tell me why some images get so washed out when I upload to blogger?

funny face

I'm back to proofing a mini-session I did impromtu at a party a couple of months ago with my friend's little girl. Delilah is such a kick and makes the best faces. The session was a technical bomb, but I'm working to salvage some, and they are cute, if not great examples of my work.

playing with color

More reprocessing

I've been playing around. This is one that I had abandoned as too muddy, but it must have been something I did in the conversion. It had a strong color cast, which is what led me to go with B&W, but I've been playing more with color... I'm resurrecting it in color now, with a new crop.

an oldie resurrected

I've been looking through old images again today. Nora turns 16 in two weeks and I'm feeling nostalgic.

I found this one of Rachel, unfortunately taken in auto with the camera flash. I worked on a new conversion and crop today.

sweet child

The semester is done and I am resurfacing for air. I took two classes this semester, and with getting sick and traveling in April, it got pretty brutal.

I've been doing TONS of photography, but it's all commercial stuff for work and I am reluctant to share it here.

Here is my sweet Rachel. We took a few pictures before school today. We are working on a mother's day gift for the grandmothers, and I snuck this one in in between.

I hope to be back here lots over the days and weeks ahead.
