wild rose?

Last year was our first spring in this house, and there was a terribly overgrown prickly thing in the middle of the garden. I chopped it way back. It then continued to grow and grow over the summer. This spring I discovered it has the most lovely yellow flowers. Is this some sort of a wild or creeping rose? Anyone know what it is?
